The oldest backup I have of my Twitter observation system is from August of 2013. Today I deleted two of my four apps to qualify for the $100/month Basic plan.I'm not sure on the math, but what I saw gets me the amount of data I currently use in three or four minutes. It's #ElonMusk's system, he can do as he pleases with it.

But the removal of journalists while restoring extremist assclowns? And now ensuring that no academic or NGO can afford to see what is happening?I think #ElonMusk believes that Twitter defines reality, and that he can apply equal measures of free speech absolutism and oligarchs uber alles, making reality what he wants it to be.Who here thinks things are going to play out that way? Certainly not me.

There's been discussion on how much VPN I would need to scape and get stuff. Twitter has been a rich data source, but only a job for a year out of that decade. I don't see any reason to spend hundreds of hours fucking around with scrape methods .... in order to just cover my hosting costs.Streams already stopped working. When the other access gives out, I may register some new socks to squat my name, and delete my original accounts.

I always have *something* new cooking, that notional back burner on the stove contains some new software stack, it's just ... a curious habit. But now I have to look back through what's been through there, maybe see what to do now that I'm getting back processing capability.I was already going from a cabinet to a single 1U server.

I've been looking at all the news on Large Language Models and watching stuff on YouTube, getting up to speed. The Nvidia GTX 1060 I've never really utilized got exercised this month and it's like me, old and tired.Tensor cores today are like Intel CPUs in the 1980s. Each generation brings enormous change in capabilities and caching. The RTX 4090 is both the top of the line AND the minimum to get.

1st generation Tensor cores were datacenter only. Since then there's been a progression:2nd gen - RTX 20x03rd gen - RTX 30x04th gen - RTX 40x02nd gen are archaic. Prices on 3rd to 4th gen cards differ little, but the core capability changes dramatically.Someone gave me a complex puzzle earlier this month. If they want me in April, I think I need that RTX 4090.

I could put the RTX 4090 in my desktop, but busy GPUs are loud and this place is tiny.My rackmounts are all 1U systems. I'm not even sure that card would work in a 2U Dell R720. I can't get into a newer generation, I've got piles of 32GB DIMMs.A Dell R820? A 2U quad processor box with processing power equal to my entire 1U fleet.Maybe I need ear muffs while I hunt for a workable revenue model ...

Maybe Vast is the way.https://vast.ai/hostingHost GPUs, plow any profits into expansion, get to a point where I can have a pair of R820s so I can keep my current data mirroring scheme in play. One stumble sticks me with a cabinet I can't afford and machines that we be utterly intolerable if I had to move them here.Decisions, decisions ...
