Back on the maruta today, fishing was good but unfortunately I lost a box of flies.. A large C&F with an extra swing leaf full of nymphs... Maybe at least 600 of them. A real kick in the nuts.#flyfishing #flytying #fishing

@flickingfeathers Six hundred? I am very sorry to hear that. I donβt even have that much in total - maybe 100 at hand π I hope fishing/fish have been helping you to recover from that disasterβ¦

@enog @flickingfeathers I have about 300 in the number one box. Just the time and effort put into making that stuff cannot be put into a value such as money but 3-5 euros for every fly at least. That's a huge financial loss too. π’

@aarnegranlund @enog Yes it'd cost at least 1000 USD to replace in a shop-more if ordered from a fly dresser. I won't be buying the replacements, so the material cost is lower, but it's a good week of work to tie 600 nymphs.

@flickingfeathers @enog Yeah, these modern nymphs are "quick and dirty" ties and you'd be expecting to lose them anyway because of the thin leaders and fishing near the bottom. If that helps with the loss, sure it doesn't.

@flickingfeathers @enog Always keep in mind that fly fishing is just a nice hobby that should not be taken too seriously. π€£

@aarnegranlund @flickingfeathers I hope you recover your fly stock soon. I probably have about 300 flies in total, but I usually take less than 100 for fishing. I don't usually carry a lot of flies around. Sometimes I even tie new flies for fishing the next day, not sure if this is a good idea or not seeing that I occasionally end up running out of the flies I want to use π€ #FlyFishing #FlyTying #Nature #Creek #Stream #Hiking #Walking

@enog @aarnegranlund it might be better to have a stock box at home and just take enough for a day when fishing.

@flickingfeathers @aarnegranlund I think that is a good idea unless you go somewhere to do multiple different types of fishing activities π Iβm a minimalist when it comes to fly fishing, so I usually carry a small sling bag with a couple of small fly boxes, 4/5/6x tippets, a shot container, a floatant, and a couple of replacement leaders, which are sufficient for my type of fishing π#FlyFishing #FlyTying #Nature #Creek #Stream #Hiking #Walking

@flickingfeathers @aarnegranlund I rarely use 6x but I always carry it - I think I should get rid of it from my sling bag π€

@enog @flickingfeathers I'd not go below 4X in my fishing. Certainly, if I fish some of the faster and deeper streams that have 3-4 kg trout I use at least 0.25 mm tippets.

@aarnegranlund @flickingfeathers For my fishing, 5x is like 4x, 5x also works like 6x - so 5x is versatile π#FlyFishing #FlyTying #Nature #Creek #Stream #Hiking #Walking

@Magpie @enog @flickingfeathers Damn, you guys are delicate. I'd never go less than .25 on the tippet on my home river, especially in the early season.

@aarnegranlund @flickingfeathers Well, I should still keep 4x, 5x, and 6x in my bag - so that I can use two different tippet sizes for dry-dropper and tandem rigging, to avoid losing all flies at the same time π#FlyFishing #FlyTying #Nature #Creek #Stream #Hiking #Walking

@enog @flickingfeathers Two full setups usually, three rods are overkill. I don't use a sling, just a regular coat with pockets under the waders or a regular shirt with pockets. Extra gear comes along in a waterproof Ortlieb back pack!
