@CliffWade I use Facebook because some of the folks I work with in the community use it regularly and don't like to use Discord. The most use I have for it is Messenger.

@majorlinux @CliffWade Same with me. Messenger is the only use it gets out of me now. Hell I even stopped posting to Instagram.I only use it to check what food trucks might be at a local brewery lol

@gnitro @majorlinux I too quit using Instagram a while back. I was posting Fortnite stuff and streaming stuff for a while, but I retired from streaming/content creation 2+ years ago so I quit posting to Instagram.

@CliffWade I use Facebook mostly to be touch with people I know in real life and for local activism. Mostly family photos and life events. I have a private group for each of my 4 grandchildren chronicling their lives since they were born. And I have a private United Against Hate group for local antiracism info and activism.

@CliffWade @jcrabapple Facebook is a containment field for IRL family and coworkers. A place where they can āfind meā under my birth name and hopefully never bother to seek me out otherwise. I pop in once every couple months. Post a random something and then forget about it all over again.Very effective!Same in LinkedIn. Lol

@CliffWade I loved G+ when it was a thing, Mastodon is pretty much my G+ replacement. I joined FB early on but after G+ I almost never checked it. After a life altering event I almost never checked anything especially FB. I would guess I have checked FB around a dozen times in 7 years.

@geospart G+ was the best social platform, EVER! That was my home away from home. I miss that place so much and wish there would be another one some day, but sadly, we all know that's not going to happen.

@CliffWade My oldest is 10 and youngest about to be 1 so there's a lot of history, stories and love in those groups! Family and close friends only. It's the main reason why I haven't left FB.

@geospart Really? That's interesting that you might remember me as I was thinking the same thing when I saw your name popup on my screen but I'm old so I don't remember so well. LOLG+ is where I started working for @novalauncher and ran the Nova communities there that had 5+ million users, and I also owned/ran the largest Android community that had over 12 million users. I myself had about 60,000+ followers. Such a great place to have great conversations!

@CliffWade Facebook is still commonly used by businesses and groups that won't or can't maintain a dynamic web site. If I want to know today's specials at the deli by my office, or if the town dump is closed due to bad weather, or if my dog's breeder has a new litter of puppies...then Facebook is where I need to go. These orgs do have web sites, but they don't have the resources & skills to do regular updates. Facebook has a much lower skill barrier.

@cliffwade Most of my friends are still there, some of my family. The groups/events system is useful (though I wish it was easier to export events as a refreshing stream instead of one-time only so i didn't have to keep manually re-syncing with google).I've generally withdrawn from any genre fan group over more than 1000 members. Too much noise, too many trolls and jerks that just like to repeat themselves in comments on every post (like "Yes sucks without Jon Anderson" - nonstop they are)

@CliffWade I rarely use it now, but I still have an account because itās sometimes the only way people choose to organise events, plus it occasionally gives me a heads up that someoneās situation has changed (baby, divorce, marriage etc.) so I donāt put my foot in it the next time I see themā¦
