Good news is I have shingles not psoriasis. The bad news is shingles hurts like you've been beaten up and the prescription painkillers are at the pharmacy that shuts early. Another sleepless night. Shingles are often to do with being run down and stressed, and I link that to work and UCU equally

@trabimechanic So sorry to hear that! Are vaccines generally available there?

And shingles is such a festive-sounding name too

@CitizenWald we do have them for >70yo I think. Do you have them? All good today - I took an unprecedented cocktail of cocodamol, paracetamol and ibuprofen, my other half - who has a bad immune system - went on the guest bed, I constructed something with pillows to support the worst affected limb and had a great night's sleep

@trabimechanic So sorry! I hear it is awful. Here, vaccines are generally available (e.g. free with health insurance) for over-50s: at any rate, they have been advertising and recommending them in recent years. Only problem is: nasty side-effects for most people (fever, chills etc.)--but only for half a day or a day, and still a small price to pay vs. the disease. Anyway, hoping you are better soon!

@trabimechanic You're welcome, and thank you! We are fine. By the way, I got the vaccine last year and had a strong reaction (whereas I never do to any others), but well worth it vs. the aternative

@CitizenWald interesting. It's fairly widespread here - everyone knows somebody who's had it. I didn't even know there was a vaccine until I already had it. Hardly anyone gets it more than once thankfully

@trabimechanic Well, we have a strange health-care system (good quality--if you have it--but inequitably & inefficiently distributed). Since drug advertisements on TV became legal c. 25 years ago, they have increased immensely. Pharmaceutical companies create a desire in consumers, who ask physician for drug, which gets charged to insurance. Shingles is perhaps different as it could affect almost everyone, & it's in everyone's interest to prevent it. I think I noticed ads in maybe last 5 years

@CitizenWald I think here we prefer pharma companies to make their money on painkillers and dressings since the official line is you can go to work as long as any oozing sores are covered 🤢
