@CliffWade There are still many good writers and poets, that I consider friends, who over the last couple of years have been very supportive on Twitter. Sadly many are still not using Mastodon...so I still have an account, however my use of Twitter is solely for engaging with the writing community. The sites use is much reduced after my original (12yr old) account was deactivated and now long deleted, Twitter truly became a toxic gateway, to use it not for writers literally makes me sad inside.

@CliffWade I still use Twitter—but where I used to be a daily user, now I only bring it up in my browser about once every 2 to 4 weeks. It's a dumpster fire over there, but there are still a few people I like over there—I wish they would come over to Mastodon.

@CliffWade there are various sources providing info that I don’t get on mastodon yet. Scientists sharing details and summaries, various people sharing articles and commenting (quote tweet!) on them adding valuable pov. With a much worse signal/noise ratio sifting through Twitter is much more time consuming nowadays.Also Twitter is now essentially read-only. I use it only for what I can get from any other place. Hope that more will move to mastodon.

@CliffWade I don’t use it as my main social media but I’ll very occasionally check it to see if I have any missed messages. Mastodon has managed to replace most of what Twitter was to me. I’m still sad and angry about what Musk has done on the platform and to former employees. It’s been such a shitshow. I’m also sad that not everyone will move here, but maybe in time as things continue to decline we’ll get more people here. I know it’s quite popular here with the tech/dev community I follow.

@heidi_helen I agree with all of this. I too miss it mainly for the news as I followed a lot of local/world news, gaming news, tech news and I don't get all of that here that I got there. It's different content here, but not in a bad way necessarily. I too hope that more people will move here as the platform there declines further. I'm just not sure if/when that will happen. I too feel sorry for the employees that Elon screwed over.

@CliffWade While still have a Twitter account I have deleted all my previous tweets, likes, comments, and profile info.. I only keep the account for alerts from a handful of follows, such as my local transit system or municipality, since there isn't a better source for in the moment updates for things like transit delays or emergency alerts. As soon as those accounts have a Mastodon presence or another means of getting alerts I'll drop Twitter entirely.

Here I can engage fruitfully with the world in a way that was never possible for me on Twitter, but on Twitter I could engage meaningfully with many dozens of people in Los Angeles that I know irl to some extent. @CliffWade what is this twitter thing? I went the scorched earth route in May 2019 and deleted Facebook, Twitter, and stopped using my google account and went Degoogled LineageOS. In 2022 i deleted the never used google account entirely and killed Amazon too. I do my best to only use FOSS applications.

@CliffWade I mean he wants to charge people absolutely stupid amounts of money for it and there are at least a few that will pay it. I understand how they got to the decision (even though I think it’s shortsighted) but the implementation was such a gigantic fuck you to the third party apps that made the platform so much more useful for so many people that it was where I drew the line.

I only heard of it about 10 hours after it happened when I spoke to my father at like 10pm.I would've seen something like that on #Twitter quite quickly. Such a niche example, but it still shows how small the #Mastodon community is and how similar communities are still disconnected.I am connected with many #tech people here, mostly due to the #techhub instance, but many tech communities are still in their own smaller circles. Completely unaware of each other. Some of them I can't even find with hashtags. Because there is still a lack of federation, it is improving the last few weeks!

@CliffWade One of my main uses of twitter has always been following kpop artists and interacting with the fandoms. A small slice of the fandoms have moved to mastodon, but the artists themselves and most of the fandoms are still on twitter, so I'm still there for that reason.

@CliffWade I have been "on Mastodon" since 2017. I occassionally "use" Twitter to find out if my ISP has fucked up the interwebs again, and similar stuff. Thats it. Their "official" sources are just not reliable (always showing BS like "status: green" etc).

@CliffWade While I haven't posted, liked or retweeted *anything* on Twitter since joining Mastodon, I'm still scrolling through the algorithmic feed from time to time. Which is funny since I *never* did this in the past! I have always read the chronological one. But it's really effective at both bubbling up the most important stuff as well as a bunch of random shit – which stops me from using it rather quickly again. 😂Guess that still counts as "Yes, I still use Twitter", though...

@CazimodoCreative It's definitely a hard platform to leave once you've used it for any length of time and really built up a follower list and such or for something like a company, content creator or whatever.

@CliffWade I don’t use Twitter at all anymore. I had 2 accounts both over 10,000 followers (not used at the same time). I don’t feel a loss of news info at all…yet. There are so many ways to consume news now. Twitter’s strength was reporting from both media and bystanders as significant events were happening in real-time. I feel now that I follow tooters dispersed more broadly around the U.S. and world which may bring a strength all its own.

@CliffWade I deleted my account around 2018. Got sick of the vitriol on all sides. About a year later, I started another one for professional reasons, but by that time it was harder to develop a sense of community, and I deleted that account in November. I’ve never missed it. I’ve used LinkedIn a lot but feel like it’s gone to shit in different ways. Just getting going on mastodon and working the learning curve.

@CliffWade complicated! I go there to share art from artists I’m already sharing. But my account is private now so it’s only for me and my current followers. And I’ve muted ~80% of everyone I follow so that I can just see the most concentrated stream of wholesome art, be done in 10 minutes, and get on with my life.
