I don't want to follow this person. I simply do not want an app that automatically censors anyone that someone has a personal problem with. This person essentially IS globally censored. All it takes is one report from a popular account.

I am sure the popular account will lose follows if the report is unfair. And you can always unfollow that account if you think report is not supposed to be used like that.

From what I’m understanding as it’s laid out is that reports are weighted based on how connected a user is, so if popular accounts decide that what you’re saying is spam any subsequent posts made by that user are all marked as spam?

Seems cliquish, granted I can see why you don’t view it as an issue because all you gotta do is just follow them but the assignation of a user as promoting spam to you and your followers just because you got 4 other people to report them seems petty. Spam is spam. Getting assblasted online should not be reason enough to be considered spam.

Relays can always review and delete invalid spam reports or agree with the report and delete the post or the user entirely. Many relays already do this and there are more tooling being developed to help them navigate false reports.

The issue is more that you believe the people who report a post and the people who run a relay can't be ideologically aligned. There's no defense in this system against ideologues who want to abuse your system. This doesn't destroy the idea of Nostr operating as a potential meritocratic marketplace for ideas but it does harm it.
