A TX judge may take the US back 150 years. Republicans are toxic: Anti-abortion advocates are trying to revive the 1873 Comstock Act, which banned mailing of anything related to abortion or contraception, in a lawsuit about mifepristone. The law’s “design, in our opinion, wasn't to prevent the importation, sale, or carriage by mail of things which might intelligently be employed by conscientious & competent physicians for the purpose of saving life or promoting the well-: https://www.texastribune.org/2023/03/20/texas-fda-abortion-pill-comstock-act/?utm_campaign=trib-social-buttons&utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social

@KimPerales this would be why a majority of judges who aren't theocratic is so important to Wisconsin. A vote against Dan Kelly for SCOWI is a vote for post-Civil War society.

@KimPerales This should absolutely be terrifying and we should absolutely be rejecting and pushing this away from us.This would basically make it 'ok' to search all mail for potential whatever. That is way to close to "We don't like you talking about this - so we've redacted it" levels of thought censorship. This is dangerous.

@KimPerales Governments will never learn, apparently. The ancient Chinese wrote about this. What happens when you outlaw something that people want? Does it change the behavior? No. All that happens is you create a new class of criminals where there was none before and you drive the behavior underground. This has been true for thousands of years. Yet, those who wish to control people continue to believe they can change behavior by outlawing. You can't. People do what they want, regardless of the law. They obey the laws they agree with because they want to.A big downside to outlawing is that every time you outlaw something that people want to do, it reduces overall respect for the law and contributes to creating a scofflaw society. The advice from the ancient Chinese? Don't create stupid laws because they will be ignored and you will lose the respect of the people.

@KimPerales I don’t think Texas can regulate the US Postal Service no matter how big their britches are.
