       How is it that the microwave screams it's speakers out when it's finished, but the kettle goes absolutely silent when the water is ready.  I have forgot to pour over so many cups of tea because of that.

       @1ynx microwaves require quite a bit of control electronics so it's not a stretch to include a beeper, electric kettles are nothing more than a thermal switch of some kind so it's harder to justify adding electronics
