As for the increase in surveillance and the tightening of civil liberties, the UK has more CCTV cameras than anywhere in the world, and yet we still can't find a woman's body in a river 800 yards from the bench where she disappeared. @dick_turpin @marnanel @fencoul No it isn't. If I decided to go to Spain to escape the British Winter and got taken to Calais, I'd feel aggrieved. If I spent my life savings to escape war, to safety with a family member in London and had fascists protesting outside a hotel I'd been taken to in Cannock, I'd be very afraid.

What I do know is jumping in a rubber boat and sailing over the channel, and running up the beach to disappear into the night is illegal, and there is nothing you can say to make that statement wrong or change my opinion.I wonder how everyone would feel if we did away with customers at airports and ferry terminals? @dick_turpin You still seem to be confusing people (possibly wealthy) escaping war/persecution to apply for asylum with "illegal migrants".It's not relevant whether European countries are safe. International law says nothing about that. People can apply wherever they want. They usually choose where they know people and speak the language. As most British migrants did when they moved to Spain. Most refugees didn't choose the UK.We've taken less than our fair share.
