Remember kids,TikTok is bad because it MIGHT be sending your data to China and they might use it against us!But if you're an AMERICAN app like Facebook that we KNOW has used your data to do bad things, well that's ok.We only allow abuse if the phone call comes from WITHIN the house.

@raphaelmorganI use Android so I'm not opposed to Google at all. Though they are not a social media company any longer. My problem with Meta and Twitter are the social destruction they cause, not who owns them. @Mrfunkedude

@That_One_Guy @Mrfunkedude that's fine, I'm just talking from a data safety perspective. if your problem with TikTok is the way it's messing with the minds of impressionable kids, that's fine. if you hate TikTok because someone in China has access to what videos you watch but you're fine with Google because it's American, that's where the problem comes in

@raphaelmorganI'm using a smartphone produced by a Korean company and manufactured in Thailand. If you're an iPhone user your phone was made in China, Vietnam or India. I'd be way more concerned with hardware tampering than data incursion but I'm obviously not because I'm using a Samsung phone.My sister has 3 ex husbands and they were all dissolved over Facebook crap. TikTok is just junk in my opinion with very little content worth watching. @Mrfunkedude

Mine is filled with physics, biology, world news, tech and media reviews, and history content.And of course there's entertainment. Some funny sketches, jokes, etc too.What TikTok does, and what makes it so addictive, is that it quickly figures out after a few hours of use, what YOU want to watch, and it's accuracy is uncanny.

@That_One_Guy @raphaelmorgan I'm against kids using any social media.As an adult I have a fair idea of when I'm being manipulated, and if I discover I am, I'm able to step away and re-evaluate.Kids can't do that as well. Teens are just beginning to understand who they might want to be. Giving them social media distorts their image of themselves. It's why China only shows educational TikToks to their children.I'm glad my kid didn't get into until she was an adult and knew herself better.

@That_One_Guy @Mrfunkedude @raphaelmorgan I like TicTok in small doses. It's good for comedy and cat videos and videos of strange zoo animals. Tic Toc does an interest survey and shows you more of what you favorite. It's what you make of it. I've yet to see a single challenge. I also watch a lot of household hacks.

@That_One_Guy @raphaelmorgan I was lucky and never had to tell her why. She was smart enough to see how her classmates and friends were affected by it and just avoided it. We had talks about it thru her teen years about it and how it affected growing minds and she understood it was a bad idea for her.I applaud your leading by example. You're a good dad.

@That_One_Guy @Mrfunkedude @raphaelmorgan I watch with my son. On my phone. So he's not exposed to the challenges or the quack ideas. It's how I found Mark Roper. I saw him on tic tok then went on YouTube to see his long format engineering videos. Watching with him I can discuss content. I also swipe up (skip) and tell him that's trash. And explain why if he asks.

He hears about it from friends and relatives. For me it's necessary so he knows he's not missing anything. And can talk about something he's seen there.

@RoseFlintThey're currently talking about the Holocaust in my daughter's class now. She came home and asked to watch Schindler's List as she'd searched for the top movies about the Holocaust. I found some things on Curiosity Stream she could watch instead. Schindler's List is a bit advanced for an 11 year old to comprehend but she's an only child and much older mentally than her 11 years. @RoseFlintAs the son of a teacher I'd say use whatever resources you need to help your children. If TikTok reaches your son I'm glad it's there to help him and you by extension. I wasn't trying to be an ass or anything and hope it didn't come off that way. I've seen the other girls my kids class have TikTok and Instagram issues so I've tried steering clear. She already wants to go to the gym to lose weight but doesn't need to. @Mrfunkedude @raphaelmorgan

Greek is an excellent thing to learn. I took a course of it when I was very young. I found it very interesting. I occasionally wish I had took more than one course.

I'd love the name of the book you are reading on mythology. All I know is Nature/Spiritual/Christianity mix I was raised with. My grandma was from Canada and had a odd mix of tales about canoes, tree spirits, muskrats, Great Spirits, and Jesus. These are great to share with your child.
