My rule is that if I've seen an ad for a product, including product placement in a TV show or movie, I'm not allowed to buy the product, or ideally anything from the same company.

@jjb Or is this more about only buying less-known, non-mainstream things?

@SomaFMrusty For me it's mostly about punishing advertisers, especially effective ones.

@jjb I do that myself but I’m not super strict about it. Ads in magazines I have a different standard for and actually like seeing them in trade journals etc.

@SomaFMrusty @jjb I'm probably a strange use case scenario. I hate advertisements, always have, although I never minded them in print magazines, because they were almost always at the back and are easily ignored, and sometimes even useful. Like, in VW Trends, for example. As far as internet advertising, it's never been popular with me. I don't own a tv, so there's no opportunity for comparison there. :)

@modpod I feel the same way about most print ads. Some mags like Sound on Sound or Tape Op I enjoy most of the ads!

@SomaFMrusty its nice when you can selectively ignore them.for the blog i upkeep im forced to look at a lot of stupid news sites. some of them are enough to trigger mild rage. the daily mail for example, is one of the worst i can think of off the top of my head. :D

@SomaFMrusty a friend of mine is keeping tabs on the rain this year, is this in daly shibby area, or the peninsula, northbay, southbay, eastbay or the city itself if i may politely inquire?LOL thank you kindly. :D I've always been fascinated by the weather too, actually. So just helping him collect some data. The radar returns earlier today looked like it was getting pretty wet up there, but only an inch is definitely not very wet at all.

@SomaFMrusty on second thought that felt super nosy, I'm just wondering what part of the bay got only an inch today, as previously stated the radar looked pretty wet.:) No harm intended by my inquiry.

@modpod It was relatively warm and windy, and I think a lot of the "rain" was evaporating before it hit the ground. Walking around mid-day in the Mission yesterday it was like someone was running a fine mist system in the wind, but rain wasn't sticking. Probably why the radar made it look like there was more rain than there was...

@SomaFMrusty that's rad ive always wanted to do that.also, very cool that it shows on wunderground. what weather module are you using hardware wise to do the forecasting?interesting. makes me wonder if the water was indeed up there, but was being kept from hitting the ground due to some manner of storm dynamics.

@modpod There are plenty of time when the weather maps and radar show green blobs, but it's just fog.The weather station is something from Ambient Weather, can't remember the model.

@SomaFMrusty that sounds cool. I'll have to look into those, thank you Rusty. As far as weather data stuff, my favorite combination so far has been Gibson Ridge software (running under wine), combined with data from allisonhouse.com
