I just realized something really scary.The way that fb and the horrible birdsite display their news feeds: an infinite scrolling list in rough order of what they think will cause you to react... is based on my early work with (and arguably invention of) collaborative filtering in the early 90s. It was a good idea, but in widespread adoption has seemed to cause some terrible, real problems.I'm really sorry, everybody.

@mala i have found haskell really fun, intellectually stimulating, and learning it has made me a better programmer. but (at least where i am now) many high-level tasks which are trivial in e.g. python require Great Labor in haskell.

Ok, so I was watching Godfather of Harlem and noticed something particularly sweet and brilliant for which I wanted to say thank you. There's a scene between Forest Whitaker and Isaach de Bankolé; Bankolé and Whitaker's characters both speak French and English, and they are Not Friends. It reminded me of something but what was it? It drove me crazy until I remembered that in one of my all-time favorite movies, Ghost Dog, these same two actors played two best friends, but Whitaker's character didn't speak French and Bankolé's didn't speak English. I can't imagine that the scene from Godfather of Harlem wasn't an intentional homage and to whomever was responsible for that: thank you, I loved it and it was beautiful! [2/2]

If your response to the British #monarchy is approximately anything other than repulsion or horror, I'm not sure that we are the same species. At minimum, the family's wealth should be repossessed by the countries that they've been stealing it from, and they should never appear in the news again until the end of time.Also feel free to ask me my opinion about the Catholic Church.
