What's one thing about the Internet that's gotten worse in the last decade?Maybe its ads, or browser notifications. Perhaps its the sheer amount of data even basic browsing seems to use these days.Sound off with your gripes about everybody's favorite series of tubes!

@hackaday Just one? 😂 One of my top pet peeves is the steep decline of search engines. Smarter people than me can write more eloquently on the subject but they quite simply do not work very well any longer. SEO and machine-generated websites are partly to blame, but the real culprits are the people behind the search engines themselves.

@hackaday Definitely the ads, reliance on them as a source of income, to be specific. A lot that's bad about the internet stems from that.

@hackaday Mastodon losing data when accidentally navigating away from the reply form. Local storage (or similar) should be used to prevent people losing their writing. 😓(Yes, it happened to me again when I was trying to reply to this very post.)

@hackaday Ads + surveillance , SEO and search quality, these are the obvious ones but the confusion between the web as index of documents and the web as distribution mechanism for programs is so deeply frustrating

@hackaday lack of home pages. I'm nostalgic for the time when signing up with an ISP got you a) internet access, b) an email account, and c) a website all in one go.

@hackaday the internet has developed in so many terrible ways, but the one overriding failure is the spread of misinformation and contribution to belief-based, and not fact-based, politics. But, of course, this outcome is the combination of many factors, including user tracking, targeted content, and ad-supported websites, as well as offline factors such as an increasingly isolated population.

@hackaday Whoever decided we need to choose a cookie strategy on each web site needs to taken out back and beaten.

@hackaday The disinformation campaigns and the complete failure of various big platforms to do enough about it. This led to genocide in Myanmar and Ethiopia. Also QAnon, Trump, Duterte. Brexit. It's hard to top genocide.

@hackaday "bloat" generally. The absurd amount of this party connections being made, and superficially unnecessary processing. Be honest with us. Run a good service ...

@hackaday corporate take over! I've had to get extremely aggresive with my adblock game and i miss the days of just being able to watch videos from a guy in his basement who was bored and started talking about science or something and subscribing to him would actually show me what the dude's up to

@hackaday definitely the constant and deeply invasive spying on me primarily for purposes of trying to sell me as much useless junk as possible.
