@kairyssdal collusion? MAD? Doesn’t make a lot of sense

@kairyssdal HSBC bought SVB’s UK assets for £1. I share your puzzlement over the rest.https://apple.news/AnjKelmJ_SCmvgmvuFAh1Ag

@kairyssdal if they think there's going to be some contagion and would rather pick up other bank assets. Or maybe they were looking for the Fed to either promise to stop raising rates or cut them?

@kairyssdal maybe the industry really wants the government to fully bail out the depositors? Move that Overton window even further…

@kairyssdal Weird mix of assets and franchises, falling knife valuation risks, bad memories for the would-be opportunistic buyers from 2008 (who “bought” years of complex litigation), and for many buyers, restrictions of Bank Holding Comoany Act to buy full operation.

@kairyssdal Scott Galloway on Pivot explained how a small group of VC’s had de facto control of majority of deposits, helped spread the run. May not be an inviting scenario to step into.

@kairyssdal Much of SVB’s value seemingly came from VCs forcing the startups they fund to bank there. Seems uncertain that sort of lock-in carries over for any acquiring bank.

@kairyssdal Big banks that don’t buy SVB stay ‘pure’ and above the mess. ‘Look how safe we are!’
