Uh oh, the ipmitool project has been put in a "public archive" state on GitHub. Speculation is that it may have been restricted since the main developer is in Moscow, but no confirmation of that yet.ipmitool is used for communicating with remote "lights-out" management devices embedded in server-class machines. BMC, IPMI, Dell iDRAC, HPE iLO, etc. devices all use or can use the IPMI protocol for controlling the system. https://www.phoronix.com/news/ipmitool-GitHub-Suspended

However, IPMI is mostly UDP-based and is generally considered less secure / insecure than other options. The HTTP-based Redfish protocol is largely replacing IPMI as a management scheme. It's fairly easy to get started with Redfish with something likecurl -sku username:password https[:]//server-bmc.domain/redfish/v1/(that trailing slash is important, annoyingly)
