Honestly, I think Automattic co-authoring the ActivityPub plugin is a bigger deal than Meta "planning" to join the Fediverse. The ActivityPub plugin already works right now.But now Automattic is putting more weight behind it!

Drupal also has an ActivityPub plugin. However, others tell me it's not as mature as the one for WordPress. With all the traction that ActivityPub has, though, I can see that changing. https://www.drupal.org/project/activitypub

@atomicpoet My thoughts exactly. Editing your Fedi profile fields should be at the top of the WP dashboard as a warning above "health" LOL. And for "SEO" I believe this will be bigger than http://rpc.pingomatic.com/ and #Google and all the other #social algorithmic ****.Bring back the #blogosphere and the #meritocracy and if #mastodon fucks it up, I will code a BETTER clone with a better database. cc @Johncdvorak Google, Twitter, Facebook, Microsoft... @atomicpoet I love this news because the community will be great again, all these hundreds of blogs federating will be a great contribution, although there will be problems and there will be a lot to develop. I am pleased that Wordpress is so open to the advancement of the network, in terms of decentralisation and thus federation. @kraft @fediversenews

@atomicpoet I am glad that Auttomatic has decided to join the development of the visionary Matthias Pfefferle because that's the word "visionary" he has been developing this kind of tools and plugins for years, not even when this looked so promising, he is a great guy and I wish him all the best. I hope that Auttomatic as a brand does not take over the development and instead of expropriating, collaborates in the open sense.

@atomicpoet although I truly don't understand this - it sounds like a very cool development. Maybe we will get back to the idea of decentralized social media - somewhere I remember hearing/reading about the notion that the human cortex is only wired to truly be able to manage 250 close personal connections. If that is true - this makes more and more sense, conversations with a small group of people.

@lacouvee Let's put it this way, Janis. Every WordPress blog can potentially be subscribed and read directly through Mastodon. You can comment directly to that blog through Mastodon. And whoever is using that WordPress blog can reply back to you. Better yet, someone can read your Mastodon posts on WordPress. Is that blowing your mind yet?

@brennansv @lacouvee A good example is @fediversenews, which is a Friendica group. It was tagged at the beginning of this thread. Another example is blender_reels@video.blender.org, which is an account on a PeerTube server. You can follow that account and watch videos that it posts.

@atomicpoet I’m following @fediversenews already. That’s cool. That’s a good example of what ActivityPub can do. I think micro servers that just publish would be very useful, like public transit and severe weather updates. I could follow relevant zip codes. I’d like to run such services which consume public data and share on ActivityPub.

I had a similar experience. My site is on the smaller side so I’ve been converting it to writefreely. It’s definitely scaled down from Wordpress but I think it can fit my small needs, it’s easier to self host, IMHO and federation works great.

Writefreenly is an excellent alternative, I had also thought before to migrate there, although... there are issues of my blog that due to the format would lose sense, making such a migration is a headache and therefore I continue with the heavy WordPress.Regards, hope you are doing well on the Writefreenly way.
