       Still buzzing off some problem-solving made possible by  @linuxmint forums and @freedosproject this week. Managed to update my Dell's BIOS using a Live USB loaded with FreeDOS and the BIOS update exe. Problem solved. Feeling of accomplishment is like a new bar of Irish Spring.
