Got an update on a flight arrival time and it's changed by an hour but departure is the same time, and this makes sense because daylight saving starts this weekend and it's an EU→US flight, except the flight lands before that kicks in, so I think the airline is confused and now I'm concerned

Having a good understanding of timezones seems like a pretty core competence in being an airline?

@mjg59 yeah, but unfortunately airlines employ Programmers

@mjg59 i'm not sure that having any core competences is common or even likely in an airline...

@mjg59 pilot wants to be sure to leave before having to think about daylight savings time, and so has decided to fly extra fast on the way in 😂

@mjg59 umm best one I heard was a Queensland to Auckland flight that was an hour late because of NZ's DLS change. But said to media would be fine next week when Aussie changed. Narrator:Queensland doesn't do day light savings

@mjg59 I just once want a flight booking website where I know which time zone is meant when I enter times; ideally, it's specifiable. But at the very least, I wish I had the option somewhere on the confirmation website, airline app or really, anything, to show times in my favorite time zone. (and that works be UTC for the whole journey)

@mjg59 Last week, Air France managed to send me a calendar invite for a UK-FR flight with correct times and timezones on both ends (yay!) except the description text contained "local time of departure" and "local time of arrival" and they managed to get BOTH of those wrong (what?)

@mjg59 many years ago I did have to go ask a person because my ticket ended up displaying the wrong hour, seemingly correcting twice for the time difference or something

@mjg59 naaaaa, it’s all UTC. Nobody cares about time zones, except the customers.

@mjg59 the airline knows what time it is, because it knows what time it isn't.
