       The consortium I'm working with is getting excited about the in person meeting, but it's planned for St. Louis Missouri.I had a long standing aversion to travel because flying contributes significantly to global warming.Then COVID showed up and the (still & at least) >1% chance of getting ME/CFS from an infection which also leads me to not want to participate at in person events.Now we also have fascists trying to criminalize the existence of queer people.So am I being unreasonably paranoid in thinking that travel to republican states is unsafe for LGBT people?

       @alienghic I might have said "maybe" before the bonkers Walgreens preemptively complying with fascists (while they still have legal options to do otherwise) episode.Now, I'm confident we can't rely on institutions to defend your rights so long as they exist in law. We have to assume that even nationwide corporations (and other entities) may ignore your rights out of the cowardice and hate in their executives' hearts, not because they are forced to do so.

       @silverseamsThis is corporate PR 101. Pick a demographic you want to sell more stuff to, find out what social issues they're fired up about, make some public donations and social media posts supporting their position on them. Rinse, repeat. This is exactly the same as what they're doing when they appear to support women's rights, minority rights etc. It's that cynical and therefore fickle, what they support will change with the seasons.@alienghic @skyfaller
