@stux @notjustbikes The unintended side effect of mileage requirements by weight class. It killed the station wagon industry while encouraging SUVs & large trucks.We would have been better off with more station wagons while we worked on our infrastructure.

@stux @notjustbikes I was at a stop light recently when one of those large trucks was behind a sports car. He had pulled up so close that when the light turned green he couldn't see it, forgot it was in front of him & smashed it real good.

@stux @notjustbikes It seems the front end of SUVs/trucks have raised about 1 cm per year over the last 20 years.This is a picture of a 2003 Isuzu Rodeo, which is a mid-sized SUV. The perspective is just so I could fit it in frame. The red line drawn is where the hood curves to be almost horizontal, so the driver wouldn't be able to see below it. That line is roughly 90 cm above the ground

@stux @seizemoments @notjustbikes While I question the need for some of these monster trucks and pickups that are obviously testosterone fueled, I take except on SUVs. I’m a senior citizen and getting into a sedan with my back issues is a real challenge. I have a smaller SUV that has seats high enough to make it easy for me to get behind the wheel. They do serve a purpose. For many they replace the old style station wagon. Do they need to be as monstrous as an Expedition? Probably not. But SUVs do serve a needed purpose. 🖖

Make them a different class of license and combine the requirements with a strict club membership rule or trade purpose.If you have one for a reason you're going to jump through whatever hoops along with everyone else in your club. You'll even pay extra for whatever fees are applicable.

@stux @notjustbikes Was talking to a drummer who had this monster rausch truck and when I told him I drive a CX-5 which gets 30 MPG. He said I drove a chick car. LOL Yet I can fit my whole bass rig in it and did I mention 30 MPG and I don't have to fill up on gas during shortages. The only downside is the GVW is not enough to move my 2600lb boat to the show. I also have a 5x8 trailer which makes my pickup friends jealous.

@stux @notjustbikes While these trucks are invading Rio de Janeiro, we also have a very old saying about it: big cars (not the ones for work, of course) means small thing between the legs. So people compensate a small "thing" with a big car. The biggest the car, the smallest is the thing.

@stux @notjustbikes As a huge car enthusiast, I can say happily that I support this post, I hate SUVs and Trucks, uneccessarily heavy and in-efficient. Hatchbacks, sedans and even microcars need to be loved more again.
