Unpopular opinion?PS4 & Xbox One and their de-facto always-online requirement heralded the end of good video games. All we get now are broken releases which require multiple patches to fix them and crappy micro-transactions.

@fribbledom the writing was on the wall since Steam launched anyway - now people release games that are half-baked and patch them as they go. But there are good examples as well, of games like Stardew Valley that genuinely keep adding a lot of content update after update. It depends...

@fribbledom I think it was a thing that started even earlier, when steam and those online-based platforms were just becoming popular. I still remember my dad ranting about STALKER Clear Sky being unplayable out of the box and requiring to download few zero-day patches that were released literally on launch day 😂 So, I'd say it is not an unpopular, but very common opinion. Basically, it is a reason I never buy a title that was released <12 months ago, and never advise anyone: the game will most probably be extremely overpriced and lower quality than if bought later.

@alexcleac @fribbledom I'm afraid 12 months might not be enough.I bought The Witcher 3 this year, which is 8 years after the release, and it's still getting updates! wtf!

@wolf480pl StarCraft II is even older, and it still gets patches, I don't think patches are necessarily a bad thing per se. Furthermore, I remember reading the history of development of the game, which was rather hard on people.12 months is just my heuristic that usually saves me money and nerves from complete garbage experience :) @fribbledom

@alexcleac @fribbledom ok but there's a difference between fixing balance in a multiplayer game in response to a thriving competitive sceneand changing balance in a single-player plot-based game years after most players are done with the main plot

@boilingsteam @fribbledom releasing half baked games for a premium price has become a standard now, unfortunately. the latest AAA games I bought and played so far were like this. and people still support this stupid practice.
