       @m2m Well, it does say "a trip to freedom". I guess what I'm asking is, does the deliverance come from the action of the victims or from an external saviour?

       @HyolobrikaIn a nutshell: the freedom comes from the fact that my grandfather escaped from the concentration camp a few days before the Soviets storm into Berlin, and managed to come home by foot, crossing the entirety of Europe, from Germany to Italy.The metaphor extends to how I lived the Cold War: trapped in propaganda and ideology and freed from both when it ended, which is when I could start retracing his personal story.A full account can be found here:https://minutestomidnight.co.uk/blog/after-1989-full-story/
