I want to get into vr things but I refuse to dual boot or put windows in a vm. I like the idea of vr but not that much. :')

@jonossaseuraava @siina the primary way of doing it is still windows but it mostly works on Linux also, it just takes some manual labor plus some niceties like auto audio switch and base stations control are not out of box yet. Also no idea about other headsets, but original vive and index should work. And hey there are rumors about "deckard", valves standalone vr headset on deck-like hardware so it might get better in few years.

@siina Its fun. Not really terribly game changing I'd say, but my kid and I both like our legacy VR setups. You can get the older Occulus Rift's working on Linux, so that is an option.

@siina @CommieGIR the index requires SteamVR which should work on Linux but I keep having bad glitches and it's not something I'd like to experience on the long term so I'll have to Windows a VM :meowShrug:

@siina @jonossaseuraava @hj Index with SteamVR is glitching out on my Arch AMD CPU/GPU system and rumor is all SteamVR efforts shifted to Deckard instead so I'm kinda stuck until Valve releases that thing.Well that, or I Windows.

@siina I respect your uncompromising anti-windows stance. I've just recently come to a state of acceptance that I'll always have to keep a low end Windows machine around if for no other reason than to do my taxes locally with Turbo Tax. I've basically moved all my other work flows to #Linux but every now and then I need to run a Windows application. I'm not proud of it but I have to live with it.

@lizard I'm not anti-windows, I just don't want to deal with it. It's a tool and still has use for some people (like your case). I don't see it as anything to be proud of or ashamed of. You're just using the tools that work best for you.

@Polychrome @siina @jonossaseuraava well those efforts will bear fruit on desktop vr eventually, just how we saw new big picture ui (ie steam deck ui) end up on desktop, and of course, Mesa updates all that. I have glitches on index but I think those go away after rebooting.
