@nvk Ah yes, I forgot about all the mirror posters. I'm over here on and off and I'm thinking the dual posters from twitter that don't interact on #Mastodon make up about 85% or more of the bitcoinhackers.org posts. There is some #Bitcoin :bitcoin: signal on Mastodon from other instances, people that aren't on #Twitter at all mostly. I'm thinking those that still want to be on Bitcoin Mastodon will be able to easily find a new home after you shut down.

@Moon You can do it! Unsolicited advice:Cutting industrial waste out of you diet will make a huge difference. I stick with lots of ground beef, cheese, nuts, vegetables, and other single ingredient foods and I feel great! Throw in some physical activity and your golden but diet is most important.

I've reached the end of the line with my #Mastodon VPS drive space. It's become very difficult to keep my instance running because there is just no way for me to clear additional space,. The Mastodon cache grows forever. Fortunately this recently merged pull request offer salvation. I'm hoping a new release is tagged soon!https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/22149

@htimsxela I have a VPS with 50GB of storage running an instance since middle of 2021. I am the only user on the instance. I have to clear media cache almost daily to keep the instance from crashing due to running out of storage space. Until now cached Avatars and Headers would grow forever but the mentioned pull request allows a way to clear them:Avatars:5.81 GB (101 KB local)Headers: 13 GB (148 KB local)After the next version bump I should be fine for the foreseeable future.

@Full_node The end result of #mastodon is that the censorship of the giant social media platforms will continue, just in smaller pockets. There are to many barriers to individuals running their own instances both from a technical standpoint and a cost standpoint. Without people running their own instances there is no meaningful censorship resistance here.There is a chance that #Nostr can become a censorship resistant platform but there are many hurdles to overcome.

@ademan @r000t Yes, there are paid relays. Some claim to offer anti-spam services.@r000t is incorrect in the above conversation he has with himself. There is no need to compile a client or pay to use a relay. I'm quite confident the vast majority of #Nostr users don't do either of these things.

@Moon @CumskinFoidPuncher69420 @ademan As I understand it, if you don't have at least one common relay with another user you won't see each other's posts.I think I remember seeing talk of a relay that would talk to other relays so it could potentially relay all #Nostr posts, but that doesn't seem viable to me all the number of posts continues to grows.

@aijooyoom @ademan @Moon @CumskinFoidPuncher69420 Jeesh, podcasts about #Nostr now. Not for me but to each his own. I also wouldn't listen to a #Mastodon podcast although I suspect one exists.Admittedly I listen hours of #Bitcoin :bitcoin: podcasts every week do we all have our own weird interests.

@djsumdog I agree, Yacy isn't very good. I indexed a bunch of stuff, the server crashed cause it ran out of memory, the database was corrupted, and I gave up on it.

@siina I respect your uncompromising anti-windows stance. I've just recently come to a state of acceptance that I'll always have to keep a low end Windows machine around if for no other reason than to do my taxes locally with Turbo Tax. I've basically moved all my other work flows to #Linux but every now and then I need to run a Windows application. I'm not proud of it but I have to live with it.

@andrew I have a strong disdain for almost all social media but there is something that really annoys me about #LinkedIn. It is the height of corporate douche baggery.For some reason that bothers me more than intentionally addictive platforms that collect all your personal data and use it for nefarious purposes.
