In the 21st century, you can "ask the air" what year the film "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein" was released, and #Google Home won't only tell you the year, but also the exact day in that year. Who says that the future isn't great?

@karabaic Ah. Well, that line applies, just substitute nobody's->nothing's.

@lauren I don't want "the air" answering my questions though. I'd like to avoid the air listening to anything I am saying to whatever degree that is possible. 😅😓

@evilmicrowizard It's only listening for you to say the hot words. Probably safer than talking to a stranger on the street.

@lauren But what is it doing with the rest of the stuff it is picking up and checking for hot words in the meantime? From 2019: https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/nicolenguyen/amazon-employees-listening-to-alexa-echo-recordings

@lauren except that, shortly, the air, will add a century to the release date, you'll say that doesn't sound right and so the air will take offense and indignantly shut your lights off.

@evilmicrowizard (a) That was years ago (b) These devices always (I've never seen an exception) light up to show you when they're listening. And (c) even in this amazon case, they were only dealing with false activations. These devices don't send audio off-device until they hear (or at least think they hear) the hot phrase.
