Why are so many laptops designed so that it's trivially easy to accidentally pop out the microsd card when you mean to press the power switch? The exposed design of most sdcard slots is abysmal.

@lauren you get to choose all your ports (and they're changeable). So you can put the microsd port where you want it... https://frame.work/marketplace/laptops

@mmasnick That's pretty cool, though apparently not for very limited budgets.

@lauren @mmasnick One the one hand, the initial investment is absolutely on par with any high-end laptop. On the other hand, the upgrade path is substantially more affordable, since a new mainboard is ~half the cost of a full laptop.Assuming Framework continues to be able to stay true to their stated ideals, at least.

@foxxtrot @mmasnick Agreed. Admittedly, I tend to be concerned about the longevity of firms offering "niche" products like this, but hope springs eternal.

@lauren Like the Dell laptops that had a hardware switch for enabling/disabling the wireless adapter, and it was located on the side of the laptop? Every other time the laptop was shoved into, or removed from, a bag it slid the switch into either the or or the off position? Personally, I don't think the designers ever use the damn things themselves.

@lauren @foxxtrot yes, that was my concern as well, but after seeing a bunch of friends pick one up, I ended up getting one over a year ago, and it's been great. I'm an extremely happy customer, and figure my upgrade path going forward is much less expensive...

@lauren May I present to you the PowerMac 6100https://www.digibarn.com/collections/systems/apple-powermac-6100/DSC08491.JPGSee that floppy disk eject button?Yeah, nah. That’s the power switch. The number of times I had an “oh no moment” and had to frantically grab the mouse left handed to save and close all my open documents before I released the switch I’d just pressed to “get the floppy out”…
