I’m not sure what’s going on but my @ me.com email has been receiving 5x the normal amount of spam since about Christmas time. Thankfully the Junk filter is catching them all. For now.

@nickycolman I’ve been getting the same - some absolutely batshit stuff which is mostly being filtered, but I was not impressed when it started (not that much can be done, I guess :blobfoxbreadsnoot: )

@lukito interesting! Mine is all for PS5, Phillips & UPS tracking. Non of which I’ve anything to do with! 😬Imagine they could create an AI that could fight spam!

@nickycolman It usually happens when mail addresses are leaked by hacking or simply sold on the data market. Your email addresses are basically lost forever because it will never become better again. I made the decision to create “hide my e-mail” addresses for every every single service I use so when it’s leaked somewhere, I can turn that particular one off and it’s done. The thing is you have to keep track of what’s used where and it’s a lot of work in the first place.In addition I made a few more mail aliases that I only use for humans or when i e the doctor needs my mail address and provide.wrecked0j@cloud. seems a little clumsy.

@awesomeknight @nickycolman totally. i will never give out my actual email address— i only use hide my email, with the exception of 2 fixed aliases i use for very limited situations. sharing your actual email address is sharing your control of what it recieves.however i will mention that i work in email marketing— and we do not target icloud email addresses at all, because of ‘mail privacy protection’ which messes up our reporting. really odd your me address is being heavily mailed

@nickycolman @awesomeknight sounds like a data broker purchased your email from a list, and they’re trying to see if you’re alive. hopefully it only lasts 3 months, but could be up to 6 months.
