By the way, when I say "Star Trek" just got darker and darker as the franchise continued, including in this third season of "Picard" -- I don't mean just the plots. @simon_lucy @lauren I think a lot of studios are under-lighting, because it's "edgier" or some other BS term for "we don't know how to do lighting".

@PJ_Evans @simon_lucy So yeah. Modern TV and film: You can't see anything because the lighting is so dark, you can't hear the dialogue because it's muffled and buried beneath a constant synthesized underscore, and ... yeah. I was reading an article lately that viewers of all ages are having trouble understanding dialogue now and frequently turning on closed captions -- people with perfectly good hearing.

@lauren They installed the LED lighting 200 years earlier, after having reached maximum lifespan for the bulbs, but never got around to replacing them so they're just super faded from use
