       I guess I’m kind of surprised how many people acquiesced to letting an algorithm sort their feed for them. just unfollow or mute the people who post too much, it’s not that hard??

       @peter Literally used 3d party apps since 2008 or thereabouts. Mostly Tweetbot. I had no idea the algorithm existed.

       @peter I liked the algorithm. When it was good, it was good. Then they’d fuck with it and it would suck. Def something I mourned when I realized Twitter was doomed.

       @peter I never used the algorithmic feed on Twitter, but I could imagine using something that allowed me to say "This person posts too much, but I don't want to unfollow them. Show me less of them, and try to figure out which posts I'd be most interested in."

       @peter I feel like there is probably a market for  an app that sits between you and your Mastodon instance if you want that kind of thing. You could pay for a subscription or be shown ads. In return you get to choose some algorithmic knobs to twist if you want.
