       Here’s something that Twitter expats are not really understanding, not using hashtags on Mastodon is the reason your engagement is underwhelming. Mastodon doesn’t have a search function nor an algorithm to surface inflammatory nonsense all the time. Unless you tag your post it’s only going to reach your followers at the time of posting. If someone is not in front of the app during that time, you might as well shout into the neither. #TwitterMigration #MastodonMigration #MastodonTips

       @violetathena the boost mechanism is I think more important than hashtags: I've seen some great engagement here from those of my posts that get a lot of boosts, even though I rarely use hashtags in them

       @simon I reckon that if you’re a popular person it’s easier to get boosts because you have an established following, but I see a lot of journalists coming in with 200-300 followers, post with no discoverability in the middle of the night and then wondering why they get no engagement 🤷‍♀️
