I have been given the coolest tech gift in a while! Something that’s both interesting from a hardware and software standpoint. If you haven’t already recognised it, the hardware is a ThinkPad X301. The operating system it’s running is a Linux distro called CrunchBang++. I didn’t know anything about this distro, and from what I’ve seen online so far, it has received a lot of high praise. Can’t wait to deep-dive into it! :-)[Sorry for the meh photos, just quick snaps.]

I’ll definitely write more about this setup, but quick historical note: the ThinkPad X300/X301 were sort of Lenovo’s answer to the original MacBook Air. And while the design language is quite different, it’s interesting to appreciate just how light this ThinkPad is (somehow it looks heavier in photos). It’s about 1.5kg, it’s reasonably thin, and it definitely has more ports than the original MacBook Air: three USB 2.0, Ethernet, DisplayPort, VGA, and the thinnest optical drive I’ve ever seen.
