Ten days of work. About 27,000 words total. There are so many quotable bits in this gold mine of an interview. It’s a long read, but I just hope people will enjoy it.

To be frank, all these ‘Content warnings’ feel a bit overused. Unless putting a Content warning before a post about finance or Twitter is done humorously.

Mastodon etiquette: When you write “For instance…” in a toot, always try to specify *which one*.

Looking for recommendations for cool Windows apps for sketching and note-taking (by hand). I'm not looking for pro stuff not because I don't want to spend money, but because such apps would be overkill for my artistic skills. (Shall I say 'overskill'? Ha!)Thank you in advance!

       Reason №4,137 why I don’t use a password manager: https://techcrunch.com/2022/12/22/lastpass-customer-password-vaults-stolen

@Eggfreckles Yes. I typically use unique and complex passwords/passphrases which vary in length between 18-40 characters. The more crucial the account they’re protecting, the longer and varied they are. (I use little tricks to make them more memorable to me).

I have been given the coolest tech gift in a while! Something that’s both interesting from a hardware and software standpoint. If you haven’t already recognised it, the hardware is a ThinkPad X301. The operating system it’s running is a Linux distro called CrunchBang++. I didn’t know anything about this distro, and from what I’ve seen online so far, it has received a lot of high praise. Can’t wait to deep-dive into it! :-)[Sorry for the meh photos, just quick snaps.]

I’ll definitely write more about this setup, but quick historical note: the ThinkPad X300/X301 were sort of Lenovo’s answer to the original MacBook Air. And while the design language is quite different, it’s interesting to appreciate just how light this ThinkPad is (somehow it looks heavier in photos). It’s about 1.5kg, it’s reasonably thin, and it definitely has more ports than the original MacBook Air: three USB 2.0, Ethernet, DisplayPort, VGA, and the thinnest optical drive I’ve ever seen.
