Just watched the teaser episode of The Last of Us. Looks like a well done zombie movie but not worth subscribing to HBO. Still brings up my ever present question about apocalypse movies. Where are the bikes? The show posits a life 20 years after collapse but with gas for HumVees.

@eRileyKc yeah it never does explain where people are getting all the gasoline, which only has a shelf life of 6mos. it’s very good for the characters tho if you can suspend disbelief. skip HBO and get a seedbox! sail the high seas!!! πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈπŸ΄β€β˜ οΈπŸ΄β€β˜ οΈπŸ΄β€β˜ οΈπŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ

@peter @eRileyKc they give a sort of hand-wavey explanation in Ep. 4, where Joel tells Ellie that they will have to be constantly siphoning gas from abandoned vehicles because the gas has degraded so badly. And when Kathleen's goons chase the crew down in episode 5, they have like 6 vehicles and that's sort of implied to represent the bulk of what they have in the entire city, so I give the showrunners a little credit for not completely ignoring reality

@twowheelsdc @eRileyKc i mean, it's a show about fungus turning people into zombies, i'm not going to worry TOO much about verisimilitude.

@peter @twowheelsdc I still think Road Warrior would have been way better with everyone riding hacked fixies and cargo bikes. The commodities everyone would be coveting could be lithium for batteries and silicon for solar panels.

@peter @twowheelsdc More to the point it would have been an excellent opportunity for the writers to work up a scenario that points out the 'magic' of hydrocarbons and what life will be like without it. Look for the 1930s movie " Things to Come" for a take on post hydrocarbon life mixed in with it's anti war message. Verisimilitude has qualities all it's own in story telling.
