       So this evening, my housemate witnessed one of this city's famous, and famously rare, peregrine falcons take a pigeon, right on our driveway. He described it as a male, probably juvenile. It's testament to just how powerful these birds of prey are (by bird standards) that it looks like the pigeon exploded. They can reach speeds of up to 389 km/h, making them the fastest animals on Earth.Fair to say this pigeon never stood a chance. 👀

       @BarrenPlanet I witnessed explosions of pigeon feathers often when I worked downtown Cleveland. There was a peregrine falcon nest in the ledge under my office window. I saw them dive into flocks of pigeons. It was great entertainment unless you were the pigeon.
