@TonyStark I live in a rural area, lots of guns, but even here most don’t believe ppl with restraining orders and history of spousal abuse should be allowed guns, mixed on assault rifles, but the courts are even farther right than most gun owners.

@TonyStark Very interesting, many, many sensible ideas. This should not be the kind of issue it is today. The stranglehold that the #NRA has on the #GOP is frightening. We need solutions and trying to come up with just one doesn’t work. We must work together to find a way to manage these gun deaths.

@TonyStark Meh, I completely agree with your words, Tony, but this article is typical Kristoff bullshit. He takes numerous widely held beliefs in gun safety advocacy and presents them like some kind of new thinking. He's just meeting his column quota. The issue is not remotely whether those are good ideas. The issue is how a paralyzed political system can possibly find enough consensus to legislate ANY solution. That's the real problem. His pretentious grandstanding won't help even a little bit.

@shoq Someone needs to do something and I’ll take anything that works no matter who’s saying it. One of our major problems is rejecting ideas that work because of who’s saying them. It’s not gonna help.

And I am I hardly the first to say that perhaps we can't find consensus because big media like the NY Times and the Washington Post are wired to only give voice to fatuous blowhards like Kristoff, Brooks, Friedman, French, Dowd, Thiessen, Weiss, and other overrated pundits notoriously wrong about most things, and virtually no voice to the people who actually know what they're talking about.

@TonyStark Oh, I never meant to suggest that. My complaint is more with the NYTime's many shitty choices, than him. But still, he gets very Brooksian in his pontifications when he strays from his journalistic turf and wades into public policy with little authority. I've agreed with most of his takes from Darfur to sweatshops to iran, (but not Iraq, where I found his objections to be procedural, not moral).
