I just got out of two Discord threads that were suddenly filled with largely unsubstantiated claims about East Palestine. While I am still unsure about where the person posting about it in one thread got it from, the person in the other was getting it from Twitter. Looking at Twitter while logged out, it seems there's a huge amount of unsubstantiated info running loose on there about this, including claims about the extent of contamination of the Ohio river, dubious recommendations to stay 200 miles away from East Palestine, and so forth. Though I was never a heavy Twitter user (I pivoted to Mastodon whenever I got hooked on that other place, and I've always been a bigger fan of Discord than Twitter) I still noticed it has a misinformation problem, in part due to it rousing emotions while algorithmically promoting questionably truthful content, and in part due to it being centralized. That being said, I don't think I've seen it this bad before. Musk truly has taken the cesspit that is Twitter, added vinyl chloride and other flammable chemicals, and set the whole shite ablaze.

@ML2 #Twitter really died because of him. They needed someone that could be neutral. But Twitter is now for the far-right conspiracy theorist what #Facebook is for the #antivax community.

@Stark9837 @ML2 You know; I never knew who ran #twitter until that a$$hole bought it. Even after blocking him, I was still seeing his brain farts. So I deleted it.
