Tonight on my usual Monday evening network radio tech segment, I hope to discuss issues regarding controlling generative AI, and in particular protecting creators and websites from potentially abusive generative AI behaviors. This is not 100% yet -- more urgent topics can derail a topic like this right up to show time. It occurs to me that while the term of course wasn't used back them, the 1981 film "Looker" -- ignoring the dramatic murders and stasis guns as such -- at its foundation involved a key aspect of the problem -- in the movie's case the use of (what we'd now call) generative AI to replace living actresses with computer-generated versions after the systems had been trained by the actual persons. Fascinating.

@lauren I attended a session at a conference on Saturday titled "I call bullshit on generative AI because ________". Over a hundred people showed up even though it had parallel sessions. My feeling is that generative ML will gain traction in entertainment and art, but will have relatively little effect on search. It might affect SEO.

@tragiccommons I'm unwilling to just sit back and let this one roll on its own -- because the effects on search *could* be enormous -- we just don't know yet. And on SEO even more. Time for us to get ahead of this one for once.

@lauren https://dkb.blog/p/bing-ai-cant-be-trusted for example. I'm willing to be convinced, but I've seen enough of these hype trains to be intensely skeptical. It feels like google assistant all over again.
