I still have not figured this out. The only way I know to get it working again is to disable the Wi-Fi interface and enable it again. Not even rebooting fixes it.But then, I only have the #IPv6 for a few minutes or seconds and then it's gone again! WTF is going on? #windows #networking

@lamp any Linux hosts to try with instead of windows ? (I did a fair share of IPv6 at some point but pretty much no windows for the past N years)

@lamp hmm might be worth capturing the packets that MS host is sending to see if it tries to do some test and it’s failing…

@ayourtch well so, that appears to be working properly. so why isn't windows renewing it... 😕 https://superuser.com/questions/1376664/windows-losing-ipv6-address-after-10-minutes

@lamp I have a bleak memory of windows not liking extremely short lifetimes, since technically with temporary addresses (that you create from prefix in the RA) you are supposed to stop using it after the valid lifetime expires… which for an any active app other than browsing would be … very short :-) If you have access to that, I would try bumping it to say 7200 valid and 3600 preferred and seeing if this makes it work, and then dialing it down from there…

@ayourtch i found the cause... i had set windows firewall to block all incoming connections...

@ayourtch yea blocking the router advertisements i guess; i wonder why it worked at first then, maybe the firewall opens for the reply to the router solicitation but then doesnt stay open

@lamp if it blocked the RA you would not get your prefix, my guess it’s more with blocking neighbor solicitation/neighbor advertisement - iirc one is permitted to populate the neighbor entry based on RA (I think), that would explain the behavior … so it’s a bug in their firewall rules
