In the last weeks I tried to sleep more (7 hours a night, sometimes even 7.5 hours) but it makes me so fucking tired. Like the 5.5 to 6 hours I've been running also don't really let me feel rested but for some reason sleeping more makes things worse.

@tante have you tried to sleep longer than 7.5? It could be that your waking in the middle of a sleep cycle.

@tante maybe you have hit the opposite of a sweet spot between sleep phases?

@tante too much to do in too few hours? 😣☹️ I try to aim for 8, but my schedule regularly gets well out of whack

@Pterry probably. I should probably sleep more than what I get but the time I have seems to be non-optimal

@tante I once read that sleep cycles are roughly 90 minutes, and if you have to get up in the middle of one, you feel very tired. So when I have to set an alarm I always try to calculate in increments of 90 minutes from my estimated sleep time (if at all possible). Either that or I sleep until I wake up, which is easier without kids, I know.

@tante maybe you're feeling the exhaustion only now? Like when someone gets sick as soon as they go on holiday

@tante @thisismissem I feel the struggle.I once read that one should find out the personal sleep needs at the end of a long vacation (2-3 weeks) with consistent bed-time. As a parent its not like I could perform this experiment. What I did to improve my sleep:- exchanged coffee for decaf / avoiding caffein where feasible- set the alarm clock for a consistent bed-time (like 10-11pm), no late working/hacking From that foundation I experimented with sleep duration.

@tante Is the sleep you're getting *restful* at all? Ever thought of going to a sleep lab to check? There are conditions such as sleep apnea which will cause your sleep to be anything but recuperative.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_apnea

@joschi It is restful, just not enough. That's why I tried a longer sleep period

@tante I can totally relate. I don't feel any more rested/less tired after 8.5 hours than after 6 hours, so why not put the gained hours to good use.
