It's sad to see how many people here are so uninformed about the state of the skies. What's going on now with these high altitude craft is really nothing new at all. What's *new* is this becoming such a political football that is pushing officials to "shoot first and ask questions later" in a way that will likely lead to disaster sooner or later.

@lauren I have to say Lauren, you are the only one here on Mastodon that I've seen politicizing the balloon and the Unidentified aircraft in Alaska.All I ask is that if you have legitimate criticisms, please show your work. Substantiate your claims. Just because something was a status quo (not substantiated), does not mean that it should be.Do you have evidence that using aircraft outside of satellites to invade is a common accepted practice with nations that aren't China?

@lauren If I were china, Id punk the US by throwing up 99 balloons, with no real tech in them, just to watch the fireworks.. Except, I work in a lab where Helium is used and it's hella expensive. So, maybe I'd use H2 because it's cheaper.
