@lauren1. We don't know for certain if it was a spy plane or not.2. We don't have any reliable sources to contest the narrative of what's been recovered.3. It's certainly possible that a balloon can capture more details as outlined here: https://www.yahoo.com/now/chinese-spy-balloon-over-us-143810616.html

@lauren that doesn't indicate any factual information, just speculation. What we do know is that 3 previous balloons entered into US airspace under the Trump administration unheeded. Those times could have given China the confidence to be brazen, but again, all of that is speculation.

@lauren @sparseMatrix If a country invades another countries airspace, without the consent of the invaded country, inasmuch as civilians are not in danger, the invaded country has the international right to destroy the object participating in that invasion.I've seen no evidence that the military is heavy handed in their response to threats of US Airspace. Do you have any evidence that the US has neglected due diligence or that they are routinely destroying aircraft they shouldn't?

@lauren @sparseMatrix It doesn't need to be from another country. The object in Alaska is US controlled airspace and the military protects that airspace. The Balloon that did infact have surveillance devices (you were contesting the narrative that it was used as a spying device a few days ago) was from another nation, and the US had every right to shoot it down. You are making a lot of assumptions without substantiating those assumptions.

@lauren I have to say Lauren, you are the only one here on Mastodon that I've seen politicizing the balloon and the Unidentified aircraft in Alaska. All I ask is that if you have legitimate criticisms, please show your work. Substantiate your claims. Just because something was a status quo (not substantiated), does not mean that it should be.Do you have evidence that using aircraft outside of satellites to invade is a common accepted practice with nations that aren't China?
