People who have apparently never considered the design of social media platforms or the business incentives of companies are missing the point here.Put another way: a proliferation of harassment and brigading - things twitter struggled with in the past, which technically qualify as “free speech” - stifles assembly on the platform, as other users self-censor or leave to avoid that harassment.

@Noupside This seems so intuitively obvious though - if you have a room full of people trying to have meaningful conversations and you ramp up the amount of loud obnoxious assholes, the reasonable people will inevitably leave, and the assholes will just keep shouting the same stuff at eachother.

@wogan @Noupside This reminds me of the challenge (impossibility?) of civil interactions during the Washington state presidential caucuses, and why we shifted to a primary system. The caucuses had become dominated by a small, loud minority. Things became very ugly if you disagreed with that section of the electorate. The shift to primaries was necessary in order for everyone to be heard.
