DID YOU KNOW it's good practice, when writing a thread on #Mastodon :mastodon: ...to set the Privacy of your first post as "Public" and then any follow-up replies as "Unlisted"🧡 🌍 ➞ πŸ§΅πŸ”“ πŸ§΅πŸ”“ πŸ§΅πŸ”“This means that only the first post gets listed in the timelines, and anyone who wants to read more can click on it to see the full thread.

@themayor Meh. Instead of using a thread on #Mastodon (which is reminiscent of #Twitter), I suggest using #WriteFreely or another instance (like #Misskey) with higher character count defaults to finish typing out your thoughts.Or even post a link to your blog. Let's end the thread 🧡 madness on Mastodon.

@darnell I'm all for blogs. I love a good blog post. But people are always going to post threads because posting a thread is more accessible to them than starting a blog when they don't already have a blog. πŸ˜„

@themayor Fair point. Although starting a blog is super easy nowadays.

@themayor @dbfulton There must be a reason most clients don’t automate this. Many a time I’ve missed the thread start, caught the reply, and pulled the thread to read the whole thing. Being doctrinaire is probably bad thing.
