The first known still extent hardcore, explicit pornographic "formal" (that is, with editing, intertitles, etc.) film is usually dated to 1915 (though some sources place the production to as late as 1923 -- exactly a century ago). Called "A Free Ride" (aka "A Grass Sandwich), it is unknown exactly who produced it or who performed in it -- but it contains essentially all the elements of modern hardcore pornography, and demonstrates that there really is nothing new under the sun in these respects. It runs just over nine minutes and is trivial to find if one is so inclined.

@dannyman I mean as still in the range of known films, and "in the range" is extent. though extant is similar in this usage (as in "still around"). I don't care much either way, though I can change it.

@lauren I got confused while reading your message as "extent" ... FWIW, a pattern I notice here is "extant" tends to follow "still" and is basically a fancy way to say "still exists"https://www.vocabulary.com/articles/chooseyourwords/extant-extent/
