Yes, the Fediverse should be for everyone. It should not exist as a country club for nerds.

@atomicpoet If people, who are (or seem) incapable of undertaking a little research, they may find we reciprocate in a way that suggests they should at least read something first or provide evidence to their statement. So rather than being elitist, we are trying to help, if they can't then think and adapt, then they are less welcome.if someone posts something that is say anti-vaccine, or anti science and you they be either ignored or asked to provide evidence. If people ask a question and the science source is just wrong, we can help them find a better source, Important skills for 2023 and beyond will be critical thinking and adaptability.

@zleap @atomicpoet *they*, as you said, don’t have to do anything. It’s in our interest the more people join as possible. If you want to put some restrictions, like research or whatever, it would lead to the death of the goal of a decentralized non-profit network. Stop policing people. They don’t owe you anything.

@constantine @atomicpoet There is no harm in suggesting a better source of information or asking people to provide clarity so we can help them further.

@zleap @atomicpoet it might be true, but even suggesting for people to do some research without their explicit request for that is patronizing, hence alienating, and this is not in our interests

@constantine @zleap @atomicpoet try applying that mentality to race relations. For instance, it’s not a minority’s job to educate someone about their struggles. It’s well documented. Do some research. Crack open a book. Google it.

@InayaShujaat @constantine @atomicpoet I have been given very helpful and useful pointers on topics such as black history, or more as a starting point for researchIt is not simply about finding information, but the quality of that information too. If I wanted to promote chemistry careers, then having a display with a range of people from a wide range of backgrounds and ethnic groups why not ask for help as to who people would recommend,, that also shows you value input from a range of background and groups.

@atomicpoet @constantine @zleap There is a difference between attempting to engage in a discussion, and refusing to do any leg work, expecting the other side to spoon feed you. I’m all for talking WITH people about my lives experiences, and directing them to further info. I’m not, however, going to explain to them why they need to do some work themselves.
