       @chancerydaily I think I’ve sorted out why Elon erect a financial barrier to Twitter’s API. I suspect the NYT had to use Twitter’s API to run the program they used for this story.        @chancerydaily I haven’t even looked at twitter in I don’t know how long, & I haven’t missed it even once. Only thing I even consider reinstalling the app for is to just post my art there every now & then like I do here. Except I actually enjoy scrolling mastodon.

       @OldHound This is also why he finds the read-only bots more objectionable than the write-only bots, which in theory makes no fcking sense, unless you are more afraid of accountability than you are of actual spam. It always makes sense in the end.

       @OldHound Honestly, when are we going to learn that it was never about bots, it is never about bots, it will never be about bots, bots are always the distraction. He is Lucy with the football and we are Charlie Brown and it's embarrassing.

       @chancerydaily @OldHound The other part of story is the read part of the API is allows alternative UIs. He wants to control of the Twitter experience because he thinks it will make him more money (there are justifications for it that a penny wise and pound foolish). He got blindsided by the fact that so many bots post content that users come to see or provide essential services that Twitter doesn’t. Because he’s got no fucking clue how the thing he’s trying to change actually works
