I know everyone says Nextdoor is a dumpster fire, but my local group has always been fine — until today. It has absolutely gone off the rails about the proper way to put food in the green waste of all things. 😂

@grammargirl It has been helpful in figuring out which of my neighbors are raciest and where exactly they live. It's like Facebook but for people that forgot or don't care that people know where they live.

@grammargirl Opinions are like beliefs. Everyone has one, and all are worthless. ;)

@grammargirl To some people this might be the most important thing of their day, or even week.(Glad I'm not in that league!!)

@grammargirl Well, here's my take: If it's food then it is not waste and it should be consumed. If it's green waste then it should be composted. Period. 🙃

@grammargirl I've also had very calm Nextdoor waters -- mostly amusing bougie stuff like pleas for housekeepers, private chefs, maritime lawyers -- but always expecting that inevitable squall!

The Nextdoor green waste thread continues to deliver this afternoon. There's a woman who is DONE with these people and their opinions and is posting the link to the, you know, actual rules from the company that picks up the bins. It has very "as per my previous email" energy.I am only lurking but am fully invested in team #TheseAreTheActualRules

@grammargirl Ours is obsessed with package thieves, and with dogs and their poop.

@grammargirl Tempers flare highest when stakes are at their lowest 🤷♂️My Nextdoor's major debate was folks walking in front yards besides neighborhood streets that didn't have sidewalks. The best petty response was someone calling out a cat for trespassing 😁

@grammargirl Out of an outstandingly morbid sense of curiosity, what are the rules and how are they being violated?

@pmb Our service does not allow people to use compostable bags in the green waste, but some people insist they can use them because they are labeled "compostable."There are side issues, but that's the big one.We also have one guy who sees the thread as an opportunity to sell worms and one conspiracy theorist (the government wants our compostables so we won't be able to grow our own food).

@grammargirl Interesting, I can see why you might want to use a bag to keep the bin from getting smelly but as you said #thesearetheactualrules. We're not allowed to put animal waste in our compost bins which makes sense for the hygiene. Not everyone in my city is either aware of this or cares. Sometimes we'll get drive by dumpings (haha) of doggy bags in our bins when they're still at the curb.

@grammargirl I love the conspiracy theory. Wacky enough to be funny and harmless enough not to worry me.Where I live they will occasionally inspect the bins before emptying them and if they find a violation they will put a big sticker on it, telling you that you need to fix the contents of the bin before they will empty it next time.
