Remember that film about the gentle, sweet, kind-hearted conductor? It doesn’t exist. I review #Tár + reveal the greatest conductor movie ever made https://www.flicks.com.au/features/after-tar-watch-unfaithfully-yours-the-wildest-maestro-movie-ever-conducted/

@lukebuckmaster one idea I had while watching the #Tár movie and reading the piece…..in a way the conductor is a faux musician. Remembered the bit from the movie where they said first violinists used to be in charge. The conductor owns the time, perhaps and lends a sense of theater, but are in many ways the same as the audience. Just doing the air guitar 🎸(Also, Olga’s dig about conducting in the restaurant)

@Wunderbug Interesting. I doubt conductors would be happy with that description tho, as faux musicians!

@lukebuckmaster I found an interesting article on this topic. Seems a study was undertaken to determine if it could be determined how much of an effect the conductor has, and it seems there was a positive correlation. https://www.npr.org/sections/deceptivecadence/2012/11/27/165677915/do-orchestras-really-need-conductors
