I intended to write about the third episode of #TheLastOfUs but never got around to it. A deviation from/expansion of the source matter that's moving, melancholic, bittersweet. Great TV and in many ways the emotional centre (certainly the emotional peak) of the entire show

Why do I watch this dreck? So you don't have to. Netflix's new film about Australian sailor Jessica Watson is a goofy, gloppy, sickly slice of cheese, soon to be lost in the algorithms https://www.theguardian.com/film/2023/feb/04/true-spirit-review-netflixs-jessica-watson-biopic-is-cheesy-and-mawkish

The very entertaining reverse whodunit #PokerFace inspired me to revisit #Columbo. Still the greatest and most original screen detective. Peter Falk's brilliantly charming performance is truly inimitable https://www.flicks.com.au/features/natasha-lyonne-is-great-in-poker-face-but-columbo-remains-the-greatest-tv-detective

Remember that film about the gentle, sweet, kind-hearted conductor? It doesn’t exist. I review #Tár + reveal the greatest conductor movie ever made https://www.flicks.com.au/features/after-tar-watch-unfaithfully-yours-the-wildest-maestro-movie-ever-conducted/

@Wunderbug Interesting. I doubt conductors would be happy with that description tho, as faux musicians!

By now you might've heard about the Seinfeld AI parody #NothingForever. Me on how the technology it uses will change motion pictures (not that there's anything wrong with that) https://www.flicks.com.au/features/seinfeld-ai-parody-nothing-forever-destroys-the-sitcom-not-that-theres-anything-wrong-with-that/

The ghost of Hunter S. Thompson is alive and well, reincarnated as Margot Robbie in #Babylon. Robbie's wildly entertaining performance joins the pantheon of the greatest drug fiends in cinema history. Here's my column for this week https://www.flicks.com.au/features/margot-robbie-in-babylon-and-6-other-great-movie-drug-fiends/

New Sydney-set series Last King of the Cross contains bursts of violence, drug deals, occasional shootouts, various acts of machismo, oceans of testosterone...my review for The Guardian https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2023/feb/16/last-king-of-the-cross-review-true-series-too-polished-for-its-own-good

Scouring Brendan Fraser's back catalogue, I found an excellent, edgy, noir-ish thriller from 2006 that almost nobody has seen (but which is easily viewable online). There's only one review of it on Rotten Tomatoes - written in Greek https://www.flicks.com.au/features/barely-anyone-has-seen-this-excellent-edgy-brendan-fraser-thriller-from-2006 #Brendanaissance
