Is #nostr going to be an alternative to #fediverse?Honestly, the simplicity of #nostr protocol, enthusiasm surrounding it and the exploding community is something very cool, but why do I smell the $hitcoin and other #cryptocurrency shit becoming one of the major thing there? I hope it doesn't end up being another #crypto #revival scheme.Anyway, I'm tinkering with it and want to see it grow in something neat.

Endless stream of #Spam and unreliable #relays are the main problem for now. Which explains why is there a concept of #Paid #Relay and seeing the $hitcoin being major or only method of payment, I am afraid it's going to be another #cryptocurrency infested could-be great project. I hope to be proven wrong.#nostr #fediverse

@surendrajat Idea is nice and there is a place for simple protocols.But it seems broken from the start, people from Nostr are focused more on "fucking the goverment" than building a community.It's just a single GitHub repo managed by noone knows who.With what many call "crypto mindset", I could see it can end up with thounseds of incompatible forks, all claiming to be the best, like we have now with cryptocurrencies.

@surendrajat With Bitcoin payments build as a part of the protocol (what a stupid idea, not send someone a BTC address?), soon there will be someone that realizes all Bitcoin payments are public and create a fork but with different currency instead. Mark my words here.

@Kobold there's a NIP(#nostr spec) for even deletion. But it depends on client to not show that event. They say it's optional for client, so they can't enforce this.https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/blob/master/09.md

@didek even if #nostr fucks up… I am still curious how far can they take this simple public-key cryptography based protocol for an actual usable social media. Because if it works, we can have another far simpler protocol and reuse most of the client/relay infra they're creating.

@surendrajat Yes. I still take would it far more than a centralized corpo services.Relays aren't bad idea. Matrix are also working on that, but Matrix is not simple. There are use cases for monolyths and simple types.

@didek also the democratization of relays by #nostr is also neat. You can choose multiple of them at once and recommend to other people/relays.
